Ratchet Up Your Passion

Image
What makes it possible for people who might seem ordinary to achieve great things? The answer is passion. Nothing can take the place of passion in a leader's life.        Take a look at four truths about passion and what it can do for you as a leader. Passion is the first step to achievement:    Your desire determines your destiny. Anyone who lives beyond an ordinary life has great desire. It's true in any field. weak desire brings weak results, just as a small fire creates little heat. The stronger your fire, the greater the desireć…” and the greater the potential. Passion increases your willpower:     There is no substitute for passion. It is fuel for the will. If you want anything badly enough, you can find the willpower to achieve it. The only way to have that kind of desire is to develop a passion. Passion changes you:     If you follow your passion- instead of others perceptions- you can't help becoming a more dedicated, ...

In His Image

Image
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness... So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him... - GENESIS 1:26,27 For the Lord taketh pleasure in his people... - PSALM 149:4 If man is made in the likeness of God, and God is a Spirit, then man, of necessity, must be a spirit.        God made man for His own pleasure. He made man to fellowship with Him. Man is not an animal. Man is in the same class with God; otherwise, he couldn't fellowship with God.        Did you ever try to fellowship with a cow? Cows are in a different kingdom than you are in. They are in a different class. You can't fellowship with them.         But we can fellowship with one another. And we can fellowship with God. Because we are in the same class of being as God.        God is a Spirit. And man, created in the image and likeness of God, is also a spirit being. Conf...

Nazareth, Where Jesus Grew Up

Image
To grasp fully the life of Jesus, we must understand the setting in which He lived.  by BILL PATTERSON When Jesus was about 3, Mary and Joseph moved back from Egypt (see Matt. 2:13-15) to Nazareth (see Matt. 2:19-23) where Jesus lived for the next 27 years. Where was Nazareth, and what was it like growing up there? A SMALL PLACE Nazareth is located in the hill country of Galilee, 20 miles west of the Mediterranean and 15 miles southeast of the Sea of Galilee. Josephus, a first- century historian, cited 45 Galilean towns; but Josephus never mentioned Nazareth. Neither does the Old Testament or the Apocrypha. The Talmud (ancient commentary) referenced 63 sites in Galilee, but not Nazareth.        When Philip told Nathanael he had found the Messiah, Jesus of Nazareth, Nathanael replied, "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" (John 1:46). Apparently, Nathanael, like some people today, equated size with importance. Excavations of ancient Nazareth ...

Burning Questions

An old Native American story tells of a young boy who was sent into the woods alone on an Autumn night to prove his courage. Soon the sky darkened and the sounds of night filled the air. Trees creaked and groaned, an Owl screeched, and a Coyote howled. Even though he was frightened, the boy remained in the woods all night, as the test of courage required. Finally morning came, and he saw a solitary figure nearby. It was his grandfather, who had been watching over him all night long.        When Moses went deep into the desert, he saw a burning bush that didn't burn up. Then God began talking to him from the bush, commissioning him to go back to Egypt and lead the Israelites out of cruel slavery to freedom. A reluctant Moses began to ask questions: "who am I that I should go?"        God simply answered, "I will be with you."        "Suppose I... say to them, 'The God of your fathers has sent me to you,' and they ask me, 'Wh...

Who has commanded and it came to pass, unless the Lord has ordained it?

My soul continually thinks of it and is bowed down within me.    But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases, His mercies never come to an end;    they are new every morning; great is thy faithfulness. The LORD is my portion, 'says my soul, 'therefore I will hope in Him.' The LORD is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul that seeks     Him. It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD. It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth. Let him sit alone in silence when he has laid it on Him;    let him put his mouth in the dust-  there may yet be hope; let him give his cheek to the smiter, and be filled with insults. For the Lord will not cast off for ever,    but, though He cause grief, He will have compassion according to the      abundance of His steadfast love; for He does not willingly afflict or grieve th...

God is a Spirit

But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship Him. God is a Spirit; and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.   - JOHN 4:23, 24 God is a Spirit.   Spiritual  things are more real than material things. They have to be, because God, who is a Spirit, created all material things.    God's Unseen Ability brought into being everything we know upon the earth in the natural realm by simply saying, "Let there be... "    You cannot know God, or touch God, or become acquainted with God physically. You cannot know God, or touch God, or communicate with God mentally.     God is a Spirit. And, thank God, you can reach Him with your spirit. Your human spirit can come to know God. Your spirit can become acquainted with God. Your spirit can communicate with God.  Your spirit can worship God! Confession: The hour now is w...

6 Areas of Life Where Successful Leaders Practice Self- Discipline

High achievers usually have one obvious thing in common: personal discipline. Successful people are willing to do things that most people are unwilling to do. Successful people express self- discipline in six key ways: 1. Successful people master their moods. They live by their commitments, not their emotions. People who do the right thing even when they don't feel like it accomplishes most of what gets done in the world! "A man without self- control is as defenseless as a city with broken- down walls"  Proverbs 25:28 (TLB). 2. Successful people watch their words. They put their minds in gear before opening their mouths. "He who guards his lips guards his life" Proverbs 13:3 (NIV) . 3. Successful people restrain their reactions. How much can you take before you lose your cool? Unfortunately, a lot of potential influence can be cut short by a short temper. "If you are sensible, you will control your temper. When someone wrongs you, it is a gr...
